Group Research Project 3

Please read John Locke’s Two Treatises of Government and prepare a short group review (800–1,000 words) that examines how Locke’s ideas helped encourage and justify the American War of Independence. Your review should focus on how his concepts of natural rights, government by consent, and the right to resist tyranny shaped colonial arguments against British rule and influenced key revolutionary texts such as the Declaration of Independence.

• Form groups of up to 7 students.
  
• In your review, briefly explain Locke’s main ideas in the Two Treatises of Government, especially natural rights (life, liberty, property), the social contract, and the right to overthrow a government that violates these rights.
  
• Analyze how these ideas were taken up by American colonists and leaders, showing how Locke’s theory provided a philosophical framework for declaring independence and legitimizing revolution.
  
• At the top of your document, include your group title and the full names of all group members.
